On "vacation," when my daughter was 6 weeks old and our puppies were 4.5 months old. The picture above represents a rare moment when all babies were content.
When I began this blog in early 2009, my daughter was 17 months old and our two puppies were 20 months old. Up until then, I had been an executive in the private equity industry for almost 10 years in Manhattan. Inevitably, my professional work ethic and work style translated into motherhood, leading me to research this new area comprehensively. In doing so, I became alarmed at health trends among children and at the increasing scientific data that links chronic illnesses to chemicals in almost everything — toys, infant formula, meat, dairy, crib mattresses, cleaning products, paints, etc.
With a heightened sense of protectiveness over my household, I began to read voraciously about this area and became increasingly upset and overwhelmed as I read more. I researched products that would be more safe to use, but then had to find the effective products through trial-and-error since less toxic sometimes meant less effective and practical.
While working a full-time job outside the home, it has been challenging to remember the products that I prefer, and why I chose them (was it a result of careful research and experience, or did I not have time to look into it that carefully?). As a result, I have been thrilled by the opportunity to organize all my research, notes, experiences, and shopping lists in this manner so that I can better track all the information I’ve reviewed, document my findings and experiences, and manage shopping lists so that I can remember my favorite products.
I’m hoping that through this public “file” I will be able to help other parents in a way that would have saved me a lot of stress, time and money. I also hope to hear from other like-minded parents about their experiences so that I can constantly refine and improve my shopping lists and choices! Please feel free to make Comments throughout the site or email me at MsS@theSfile.com.
Warmly,
Ms. S.
